**********************************

Despite a severe Typhoon that hit Manila in early December - which delayed the first shipment of donated books by about 5 weeks - five cartons, filled with over 800 books, arrived in Salug, Z.N., Philippines. There they were received by several volunteers, teachers and school administrators.
Many of the volunteers live in very rural areas that have extremely limited educational materials, especially textbooks.
They were all so eager to gather the books that most suited their particular discipline, educationally. You can see in the photos their smiles and joy as they piled up their loot!
The boxes of books were delivered to the National High School in the City of Salug.  Teachers and educators from several outlying townships and villages made their way to the High School.
Recipients and volunteers are from:
  • Salug National High School
  • Binoni National High School
  • Ramon Magsaysay High School
  • Caracol Elementary School
  • Binoni Day Care Center (Kindergarten)
  • Salug Central School
  • Santo Nino Day Care Center
Our President and Director of Foreign Affairs, Alma Coleman, was there to oversee the whole "unveiling" (so to speak) of our organization's presentation.
An official agreement was made between Share Books Worldwide and the municipal library of Salug, where college level books will be donated and used by students in that area.  A contract between Share Books Worldwide and St. Vincent's College (a private school in Dipolog City which teaches from Kindergarten through undergraduate college level courses) was signed.  A five-year literacy program is being initiated by that school with help from our organization by donations of elementary level books.
All-in-all, this was very successful for our organization, as well as the recipients of the books (as you can see in our photos!)
Thank you, again, so much, to those of you that donated books, and to those volunteers that have given of their time so generously.
